El Hierro Hotels
El Hierro, nicknamed Isla del Meridiano, is the smallest and farthest south and west of the Canary Islands and is the last place in Spain where the sun sets.
El Hierro is a quieter choice to it's neighbouring islands and with it's beautiful landscapes and many areas only accessible by foot, El Hierro is a popular choice with hikers.
How Hot?
El Hierro temperatures range from 62ºF (19ºC) in January and 77ºF (25ºC) in August, there are moderate or strong winds nearly all year round.
The trade winds bring a high degree of humidity which condensates on the slopes with rainy season usually lasting from November to March, though even in the summer months its best to be prepared with waterproof-jackets.
Out and About
El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands and conserves it's environment as nature first created it so you will not see the large amounts of bars, hotels and an abundance of activities like you will find in the larger, more touristy resorts.
Although there is not a huge amount of water sports available there is ample opportunity for diving. There are 25 known dive sites and several diving centres so if you want to explore the calm waters, this is the way to do it.
Other popular sports here are paragliding which is the perfect way to take in some of the beautiful views of the island and horse back riding which is great for exploring the rugged coastal paths and lush green forests.
The sight of El Sabinar is one not to be missed. The trunks of 300 or so Juniper trees have been bent out of shape by the wind and are now eerie sculptural shapes.
For those who want to escape the crowds then El Hierro is the place for you.

El Hierro is like many other Canary Islands and loves cheese, it is a firm favourite on the island. The island itself produces its own cheese, wine and liquer. One of the most popular dishes in El Hierro is Quesadilla, not the Mexican type but a sweet cake made up of local cheeses. These can be found in little restaurants in the local areas., mainly on cliffsides. Food on the island is very tasty and some of the local dishes include stews, hot pots, fish or chorizo sausages.
The island is full of restaurants and cafes, bars and snack bars. You can dine in any of these and they serve anything from International dishes right through to traditional dishes. All Inclusive hotels are scattered around the island as are self catering accommodation making it easy to enjoy the local cuisine.
