What is Centaurium?

Centaurium (Centaurium umbellatum) is a small plant with purple flowers that may be found in many parts of the world but especially in Middle Europe and Asia. The classification of the group of plants known as Centaurium is still in discussion and because of this, Centaurium umbellatum is sometimes also referred to as Centaurium erythrea. It is said that the group of plants named Centaurium derived its name from the centaur Chiron, well known in Greek mythology for his skills as a herbalist.
