What is BPH?

BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) is the medical term for an enlarged prostate, a common condition for men over the age of 50 years. Symptoms tend to manifest around the bladder with frequent urination, a constant need to urinate at night, poor urine flow and dribbling. As BPH is the result of the enlargement of cells in the prostate reacting to increasing levels of inflammatory hormones, Saw Palmetto is used to prevent the production of specific inflammatory hormones and dampen the inflammatory response of the prostate cells.

What is Saw Pametto?

Sabal is the name given to the group of plants known as the ‘New World Palms’ or simply as Palmetto. The Sabal group of plants can be found all over the world, but Sabal serrulata (also known as Serenoa repens and by the common names Saw palmetto or Dwarf Palm) is only found in the Florida Everglades. The fruit or berries of Sabal serrulata are used to make A.Vogel Saw Palmetto. These are the size of olives and contain an oil known simply as ‘saw palmetto oil’, rich in a substance called β-sitosterol.

Can Saw Palmetto be taken with other medicines?

If you are already taking medication for an enlarged prostate, you seek the consultation of your doctor before using A.Vogel Saw Palmetto as it may not be suitable for you.

Why must I have a diagnosis of BPH confirmed by my GP before starting treatment with Saw Palmetto?

This is to exclude the possibility of a more serious prostate condition such as prostate cancer. Although prostate cancer is a much rarer condition, it becomes more common with increasing age, just as with an enlarged prostate.

Directions of Use

Adults should take 10 - 15 drops of A.Vogel Saw Palmetto twice daily in a little Mineral Water.
