What is a Dog and Hat coffee subscription?

A Dog and Hat coffee subscription is a service that delivers freshly roasted speciality coffee direct to your door from the best independent coffee roasters the UK, Europe and the Rest of the World have to offer.

Founded in 2017 and Specialty Coffee Certified.

How much coffee is in a subscription box?

You're in control of how much coffee you'd like each month.

We offer three options - a 2x bag subscription, 3x bag subscription and a 4x bag subscription.

Typically, each bag of coffee is 250g, but depending on the roaster it might be a 200g bag.

Members also have the opportunity to add additional bags from the current month's coffee selection to their subscription each month.

How much does it cost?

Our subscriptions have three price levels depending how much coffee you want.

A 2x bag subscription costs £21, a 3x bag subscription costs £28 and a 4x bag subscription costs £35.

A 2x bag International Roaster subscription costs £26.

What coffee making methods is the coffee suitable for?

You can select what method you like to use to make your coffee.

We offer subscriptions for Filter, Espresso, or the more adventurous among you can select our signature Assorted box containing coffees suitable for Filter and/or Espresso.

How does this subscription model work anyway?

You'll be billed each month on the 16th unless you choose to pause or cancel (which you can do at any time).

We then place the orders into the roasters for that month to ensure that your coffee is as freshly roasted as possible.

New orders placed after the 16th are shipped as we cater for the new subscribers up until around the 1st of the next month.

We then ship the coffee to our subscribers as soon after the 16th of the month as possible – this is typically the first Wednesday after the 16th.

Once the coffee is dispatched you will receive an email confirming that it’s on its way.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes - you are completely in control of your subscription and you may cancel at any time (but we’ll definitely be sad to see you go, so please get in touch if you have any feedback for us).

Can I pause my subscription?

Yes, if you just want to skip a month or two you can log into your account and skip months your subscription. If you do want to stop for while you can cancel and re-activate when you are ready. Please ensure you do it before the 16th of the month (the billing cut-off date each month).

Can I buy the coffee as a gift?

Yes, you can buy a subscription as a gift for someone.

You can also buy a coffee gift box option that includes three months of our fantastic coffee delivered to the lucky recipient of your choice.

How will my subscription box get to me?

All our boxes are shipped each month using the Royal Mail 24hour or 48hour service.

When will I receive my coffee?

The charge date for orders each month is the 16th. We aim to ship as soon after this date as we can once all the coffee has been freshly roasted and delivered to us. Once we have shipped the subscriptions, you will receive an email confirming dispatch.

If you order between the 16th and the last day of the month we will send a box straight out to you as long as we still have stock of the coffee.

I don’t live in the UK, can I still subscribe?

Yes, at check-out you will be given a price to ship to your chosen country. If your chosen country does not appear on the list of options you can contact us and we can arrange the delivery for you with the delivery price. We cannot however guarantee the shipping times for certain countries.

Countries we currently ship to:
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Thailand
  • Ireland
Will the coffee fit through my letterbox?

Unfortunately not. The subscriptions ship as a Royal Mail small parcel and won’t fit through a standard letter box.

The reason for this is that we do not re-bag the coffee we receive from the roasters to ensure it stays fresh, isn’t improperly handled or tainted, and retains the independent branding of each roaster. As such it’s impossible to guarantee that the coffee we receive from the roasters would fit in a box suitable for a standard letterbox.

Which roasters do you work with?

We work with the widest selection of the top independent roasters from the UK, Europe and Worldwide.  Simply head over to our Roasters page to see the current list.

Do you roast your own coffee?

No, we keep out of the roasting game. We love the process and science of coffee roasting but are more than happy to leave this part of the process in the capable hands of our partner roasters – they’ve been doing this for a long time and are at the top of their game.

What kind of coffee can I expect in my box?

The coffee that we include is all speciality grade coffee and has been ethically sourced.

We don’t specify roast profiles in the coffees, so you may receive a light-roast coffee one month, and a medium roast coffee the next. The key for us is to ensure you keep receiving a diverse range of coffees to discover and enjoy.

How do you select your coffees?

Our goal at Dog and Hat is to ensure that you get the greatest variety in coffee to enjoy each month.  To achieve this we liaise carefully with our roasters, understand the seasonality of their coffee roasting schedules and wrap it all up with an exhaustive coffee cupping and testing regime to finalise selection.

This means that you'll always receive the UK's highest-quality, most diverse coffee selection to enjoy each month.

I can’t find an option for grinding on the website?

Well, we prefer to sell wholebean, but you can find ground on the website.

We are passionate that you always get the best possible experience of the coffee that has been meticulously grown, picked and roasted.  Without doubt, this means whole bean coffee and grinding your beans just before you make your coffee.

We do have an entry level grinder available to purchase on the site and if you'd like any grinder advice, please get in touch.

Are you environmentally friendly?

Very much so, we only use plain hand stamped boxes, we print on recycled paper, and use recycled tissue paper. Dog and Hat do not do any unnecessary printing. The office uses a renewable energy source and  all coffee bags that we ship out can be send back to us for recycling via Terracycle.

Where’s my coffee?

Occasionally a parcel might go missing in transit. If you haven’t received your coffee, then please do get in touch with us (hello@dogandhat.co.uk) and we’ll check the tracking details, sort out the issue and get you drinking your freshly roasted coffee as quickly as possible

I didn’t really like one of the coffees this month?

Oh no, we’re really sorry to hear that - coffee is a very subjective product.

Please get in touch with us though, as we love to get feedback from our members to help us continually improve the service.

Note that unfortunately we can't accept returns of opened coffee.

I really loved one of the coffees this month, how can I buy more?

Fantastic, we love that you love the coffee.  We’d recommend that you get in touch with the roaster and buy some more directly from them.  They’d love to hear that you like their coffee - and don’t forget to let them know where you got it from first.

Do you have any guides to help me brew my coffee?

Yes we do.  Our brew guides for the common coffee making methods are available to help you on our website.

If you need more advice the please get in touch… we’re always happy to help and offer advice where we can (or just have a chat about the coffee)

Can I send my bags back to you for recycling?

Yes, you can ship back all empty bags included in the sub to Dog and Hat for recycling. Please save the bags, fill up your box and send you box back to us.
