About Glasgow

The vibrant city of Glasgow has something to offer any visitor.

Steeped in history with a range of architecture and landmarks to admire, the city's cultural and artistic nature has flourished since being awarded European city of culture in 1990.

Glasgow's compact city centre serves up a welcoming mix of fine food and drink, with plenty of potential for retail therapy and a renowned music scene in which to unwind when making the most of a Reserve Apartments vacation rental.

The locals are proud of Glasgow and this comes across in the recognition of the city as one of the friendliest to visit in Scotland.

Why visit Glasgow?

Also known for being Scotland's largest city, Glasgow provides excellent shopping facilities from the covered street of the Argyll Arcade to the newer Buchanan Galleries.

St Enoch Shopping Centre is the largest of its kind in Scotland, a huge glass structure with a large variety of shops and eating areas.

A trip to the city's West End will also reward you with an area of boutique and specialist shops.

At the end of a busy day of culture and shopping, head back into the city to sample the many pubs, bars, clubs, comedy clubs, and restaurants that make Glasgow a venue with something for everyone.

What to do during your stay in Glasgow

The city is home to many attractions, including excellent landmarks, galleries, and museums, among them the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Located in the city's West End, the Art Gallery is Scotland's most visited museum, hosting over 8,000 treasures across its 22 galleries.

The varied collection of international art includes Salvador Dali's masterpiece Christ of Saint John of the Cross.

The gallery also houses a collection of arms and armour, a natural history section, Scottish history and archaeology and so much more.

And it's free! Did we forget to mention that bit?

Yes, all of these wonderful exhibits can be viewed with no admission charge.

Aside from Kelvingrove, the award-winning Riverside museum charts Glasgow's rich history, while the Gallery of Modern Art highlights the work of the artists living and studying in the city, as well as art from around the world which influences and is influenced by them.

Meanwhile, children will adore the Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow, Scotland's oldest museum with over a million artefacts to explore.

Architecture in Glasgow

A stroll around Glasgow will show the architectural heritage of the city with the many landmarks alongside the modern.

Glasgow Cathedral is a fine example of the medieval architecture Glasgow has to offer, while the City Chambers display the bold Victorian style.

Modern-day Glasgow is ever-changing as seen along the river Clyde where futuristic designs include the Riverside Museum, designed by Zaha Hadid, and the Scottish Events Campus which houses two buildings by Norman Foster.

Any architectural tour of Glasgow would not be complete without Charles Rennie Mackintosh whose designs included the Glasgow School of Art and are celebrated in galleries and museums across the city such as Kelvingrove.

History of Glasgow

Although a visit to a cemetery may sound a little ghoulish, tours of the Necropolis are available to learn all about this atmospheric Victorian cemetery

With over 50,000 graves the Necropolis tour involves crypts, mausoleums and catacombs while also providing some of the best views across the city.
