All about this LOLER course

This course will introduce you to LOLER and you will consider what it means. In this course you will learn that lifting equipment must be suitable for the task and the conditions in which it will be used.

The risks must be considered in the selection process and the equipment to be chosen by a competent person. You will learn that all lifting equipment and accessories can be identified by using a colour-coded system.

A four colour-coded system can be used to indicate when the lifting equipment was last tested and inspected, you will learn the importance of maintenance, inspection and testing.

Lifting equipment must function properly and be in good condition for it to be safe. If it is not maintained and inspected, defects may go unnoticed and unrepaired which can increase the risk of accidents occurring. You will learn why emergency procedures are required and will look at some examples of emergencies involving lifting operations.

You will finish this course by learning what a rescue plan is and that it is a fundamental part of planning. Only people who are trained and competent should carry out rescues from heights and this is a requirement in the Work at Heights Regulations 2005.
