Tasting notes:

Nose: Guarded at first, with time the spirit relaxes and the aromas of plum wine, chinotto orange, clove and furniture polish emerge. With the addition of water comes wafts of freshly baked Jamaican ginger cake, coffee liqueur, and cherry cola. A savoury note of black-bean sauce plays around the edges.

Palate: Powerful and tongue-tingling at first, it calms with time in the glass and takes water well. The plum wine from the nose is in evidence as top notes, with orange ooil, cinnamon and dark chilli chocolate. The cola note also makes an appearance, before delightful umami and nuttiness assert themselves.

Finish: Cashew, ginger, orange and that delightful umami persist into a medium-long finish.

Comment: A robust and well-structured dram that will take well to pairing with a full-bodied and earthy cigar.

Pairing: Olive Serie V Melanio Robusto. This beautifully box-pressed Robusto-sized cigar measures in at 5" long with a ring guage of 52. Completely rolled by hand, its blend relies on Nicaraguan fuller and binder, with a well-aged Ecuadorian wrapper. Rich and earthy, this full-bodied smoke offers notes of coffee with cream, caramel, biscuit, clove, green pepper and dark chocolate. These complimentary flavours mingle perfectly with those of cask #6177.
