This Information Governance training is designed to help those who work in health or social care settings understand their data protection responsibilities.

The course explains the types of personal information workers may be required to handle, how to process this information fairly and in accordance with the law, how to keep accurate records, and how to share personal information in an appropriate and secure manner. Module 1: Identifying and Understanding Information

What is information governance and why is it important in the care sector? Data myths, which organisations are responsible for information governance, why it’s important to identify sensitive and confidential information, reasons for processing information, fair processing, individual rights, and where information is found.

Module 2: Main Legislative and Other Provisions

The Human Rights Act, the Freedom of Information Act, common law duty of confidentiality, the Care Act, the Health and Social Care (Quality and Safety) Act, the Mental Capacity Act, the Data Protection Act, and the GDPR.

Module 3: Information Sharing

The Caldicott Principles 2013, sharing in health and social care, Care Act guidance, consent, the Mental Capacity Act, if someone refuses permission to share information, sharing confidential information with others, data sharing and GDPR, and data sharing concerns.

Module 4: Record Keeping and Processing

General considerations, record keeping policy, records associated with care settings, surveillance cameras, how to record information, ICO and CQC expectations, data privacy impact assessments, data processing records, record management, disposal of documents, and transporting information and mobile data.

Module 5: When Things Go Wrong

Duty of candour, complaints, grievances and whistleblowing, data breaches, training, policies and procedures, and useful resources.

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 10 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 90%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.

This Information Governance course is suitable for anyone who works in health and social care. This includes employees at all levels, as everyone in all types of care settings has a responsibility to keep personal information up-to-date, secure and confidential.

This is an introductory data security course and no pre-requisite knowledge is required.
